There are rules, logistics and costs to consider and proper planning for Vegas In 24 is critical. To make it onto the official leaderboard and be recognized for your accomplishment, each riders must submit a free application. Once reviewed, you can choose to ride any of the 4 official routes with your own support team or you can hire our Ho’Omau support crew and save yourself plenty of logistics headaches and money. More details are provided below.
Using our Ho’Omau support crew is the easiest, safest and least costly option to completing Vegas In 24. However, riding the event self-supported is perfectly fine. You still have to follow a few rules to make sure we honor your ride on the official leaderboard, and maybe eventually in the Hall of Fame.
One way or another, planning for a big event like Vegas In 24 takes time, but the reward of a massive feat far outweighs the work required. Whether you tackle it all on your own or use the Ho’Omau support team is completely up to you. You receive much more details after you sign up, but here is a summary for riders using a self-support team:
- Ho’Omau requires, at minimum, that you maintain a 2-person crew to rotate driving. Both individuals have to be licensed drivers.
- Get your car serviced before the event. You do not want your crew car to break down behind you and leave you exposed to traffic at any point.
- Assess gas mileage to find an opportune moment for your support car to refuel. Usually this happens at one of your rest stops so that the car doesn’t fall behind you.
- You should have clear protocols in place for who drives when and for how long, and also for the possibility that one driver becomes too tired to drive.
- You should highly consider bringing a 3rd person along (or have one of your drivers be) a medical professional, such as an RN or MD.
- While unlikely, we equip all Ho’Omau support cars with comprehensive first aid, CPR and AED kits. You should consider doing the same with your car.
- You should consider installing a bike rack on your support car in case you abandon the event. This will simplify returning back to your starting point or to Las Vegas.
- You will need camera equipment with continuous video footage from your front and rear dashboard at all times. This is a mandatory to be listed as a finisher.
- You will need someone to video every rest stop you take so that we can verify that you did not receive support from anyone while you are off the bike.
- You need to consider how you want your ride captured, and whether you should hire a photographer, videographer, social media expert or drone pilot.
- You should have multiple meetings with your team to make sure they understand their responsibilities. Team failure almost always affects rider safety and success.
- If you do not purchase the Pre-Event Basic Ho’Omau support package, be sure to thoroughly evaluate the course, climbs, rest stops, turns, waypoints, road condition, equipment choices, predicted weather (temperature, cloud cover, temperature variance, wind speed & direction), etc
After you sign up and have chosen your route, you will receive the Vegas In 24 Official Rulebook – it is full of information to guide you through all the things you and your crew need to know. Do make absolutely sure you and your team understand what is expected of them.
If you don’t want to go through the logistics, planning, financial and time investment to put together your entire team and event, you can get our support crew to do some, most, or all of it for you. Choose from several options based on your specific needs and focus more time on your training instead. Ho’Omau Support services are optional. As long as you follow the rules, you can use your own crew and plan every bit on your own. All finishers will receive their awards trophy, certificate, t-shirt, etc and entry on the leaderboard regardless of whether Ho’Omau support services are utilized.
