Comprehensive Athletic Movement Analysis™ (CAMA) is a full-spectrum, individualized, full-body evaluation, assessment and review of your athletic motion patterns, habits, restrictions and strengths to test and assess how each affect your ability, mobility, flexibility, balance, risk of injury, potential, and ultimately, performance. The result is an action plan that addresses any limitations, restrictions, overuse and underutilization to optimally improve areas of your kinetic chain and maximize athletic potential and performance.
CAMA services are performed by highly-skilled and certified endurance coaches with the necessary academic requirements and deep passion for athletic potential. Your assigned instructor will have, at minimum, certifications as a Corrective Exercise Specialist, Performance Enhancement Specialist and Stretching & Flexibility Coach by the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). If you opt for a sport-specific CAMA+ assessment, your instructor will also be certified, at minimum, by the governing body of your specific sport (i.e.: USA Triathlon, USA Cycling, USA Track & Field), and in the case of cycling and triathlon, have a certification as a professional bike fitter.
Where can I get my CAMA evaluation?
Individuals starting a fitness routine and long-term athletes alike often face the same challenge: lack of testing (or proper testing) due to location. Ho’Omau Endurance has addressed this issue at all facets of endurance sports – learning, planning, training, racing- and testing is no different. We can perform your CAMA assessment in-person in Southern California, or remotely anywhere else in the United States or Europe – we ship the required motion capture technology to your location and your instructor will oversee the entire CAMA session with you via video conference, wherever you are located. After receiving the equipment and captured recordings back at our office, your certified instructor will go through the exact same analysis and review as would have occurred during an in-person assessment. Remote CAMA evaluations are slightly more costly as your instructor will spend more time on the assessment, and due to shipping costs of our equipment.
Sport-specific CAMA+ evaluations for running, cycling and triathlon can also be performed remotely, however they require a minimum amount of space clearance to perform, and generally need greater attention to detail by the athlete regarding the placement of Ho’Omau equipment and the location of the indoor bike trainer and/or treadmill. However, with usually less than 20 minutes more setup time, CAMA+ testing will be ready to go.

How long does it take?
CAMA assessments vary in time depending on how many areas are ultimately identified as problematic. In most cases, athletes should be prepared so spend 3 hours or more with their certified instructor.
What are alternatives to CAMA?
Alternatives include consulting a personal trainer for a basic strength evaluation, a flexibility and stretching coach to assess range of motion and mobility, a corrective exercise specialist for a thorough evaluation of static, dynamic and weight-bearing abilities, a bike fitter to assess your position on the bike, and so on. The obvious drawback to each is that it provides a limited window into your overall body’s potential and restrictions. Another drawback is that you will be performing the same evaluations multiple times.

In most cases, athletes should be prepared so spend 3 hours or more with their certified instructor, whether the session is in-person or remote. In the case of a remote CAMA session, athletes should be prepared for more time needed in the beginning to unpack equipment and complete the proper space arrangements in their homes prior to commencing their session. This may require upward of 30 minutes depending on the configuration of the athlete’s home. For sport-specific CAMA+ sessions (cycling, running or triathlon), an additional 20 minutes of setup time is likely needed to optimally situate the indoor bike and/or treadmill to perfect proper motion capture.

ReCAMA is a modified version of our standard CAMA service for athletes who have completed rehab due to sports injuries or surgery. ReCAMA emphasizes a plan forward after the athlete has been cleared by his or her medical professionals (ortho, physical therapist, etc), with specific focus on corrective exercises that will bring the athlete back to full balance and performance equilibrium.
