Training

What to Expect

Our 2026 Valley of Fire RV training camp is a unique training camp unlike any other. Open for up to 30 cyclists, runners and triathletes. As a multi-disciplinary altitude camp, swimming, running and cycling sessions are organized evenly over the 6-day camp – however pure swimmers, runners or cyclists can opt to participate in only their sport if desired. Cross training, such as SUP paddleboarding, mindfulness and endurance-specific Q&A sessions with Andy Funk are also built into every single daily schedule. Depending on swim speed, running pace and w/kg of each athlete, sometimes one or two extra groups are setup to avoid splitting the pack. Swimming and SUP occurs in Lake Mead with SUP support, while cycling routes reach as far into the Valley of Fire State Park and surrounding areas.

Minimum Athlete Requirements

In order to create an environment where athletes are split into the fewest groups possible during camp, we will be setting minimum running pace and cycling W/Kg requirement. These will be posted here soon.

The Valley of Fire cycling training routes are absolutely stunning. In our opinion, once you have ridden them, you will never forget the experience. Since this is a short camp, we will select 3x ride days during camp. Final route selection will not occur until a few weeks prior to the camp. Furthermore, separate rider groups may be created as needed based on w/kg or perceived rider energy on any given day of the camp.

Please login to your Ho’Omau account to see the remaining routes. If you do not have an account, click the Sign Up button at the very top – it takes less than 1 minute.

As there will be a variety of skill levels present at the camp, final route selection will not occur until a few weeks prior to the camp. Furthermore, separate running groups are created as needed based on running pace or perceived runner energy on any given day of the camp.

Open water swimming in Lake Mead is quite epic – the waters is clean and pristine. At least 1x organized swim, but likely 2x will occur during the camp. For safety of the group, all swims have SUP support and swimming on your own outside of our organized swims occurs at your own risk.

Average water temperature in May is usually still cool. around 66-70 degrees. As a result, those who prefer to stay cozy should consider brining their wetsuits.

This is am exciting yet super rustic RV “out in the middle of nowhere” type of training camp – so cross training activities in the region are somewhat limited to standup paddle boarding, swimming and hiking. However, we will integrate additional cross training efforts such yoga and stretching on a daily basis.

Andy has been passionate about health, fitness, nutrition and endurance sports as an athlete, investor and entrepreneur for over 20 years. Having brought numerous people to an active lifestyle, clean eating and endurance sports for so many years exemplifies his belief that an active life is a good life. Whether it is the 119 races he conquered, the multiple Ironman World Championship finishes, completing the Vegas In 24 challenge, or founding Ho’Omau Endurance Co., the path of ‘endurance for life’ is quite clear.

Andy and his family are avid RV’ers and have brought their bikes to the VOF region on multiple occasions. No need to say that Andy was behind the choosing of this camp location involved in the planning, scheduling and route mapping.

Continuing with our Ho’Omau training camp tradition, we are creating an open environment where questions can be asked, topics can be discussed and issues can be debated. When it comes to endurance sports, Andy likely has a good answer for you 9 ¾ out of 10 times. As a result, a 20-min “campfire” Q&A with Andy where “any talk goes” is scheduled daily in the early evening. Andy will also participate in most of the swims, runs, rides and cross training during the camp.
