A criterium (or crit) is fast racing that is typically held on a 1-mile, slightly longer, closed circuit. The race consists of multiple laps, with the winner being the first person over the finish line after having completed the predetermined amount of laps. Criteriums contain abrupt turns, rapid surges of speed, and aggressive racing techniques. Criteriums are recognized for their speed and continuous positional shifts that require superior bike control and sprinting ability. Criteriums are typical in urban zones and are frequently included in street bike races and competitions.
